Silesia Rally in the European Rally Trophy and the Polish Championship

The Silesia Rally, the largest automotive event in Silesia, has gained international importance. In the 2023 season, the competition will be not only a round of the Polish championship, but also the FIA European Rally Trophy – a series held in 15 countries on the Old Continent. The next year’s edition of the Silesia Rally is scheduled for the weekend of 8-10 September.

The World Motor Sport Council of the FIA (International Automobile Federation) has approved the itineraries of international competitions, including Formula 1, WRC or Formula E. The Federation also confirmed the shape of the FIA European Rally Trophy itinerary, in which the Silesia Rally will debut in the 2023 season. The competition, organised by the Foundation of Automobilists and held under the patronage of Jakub Chełstowski, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodship, will be the 16th round of the European series. The competition in the 2023 FIA European Rally Trophy will begin and end close to the Polish borders. The opening round will be the Valaska Rally in the Czech Republic (asphalt, 31 March-2 April), and the final is scheduled in Germany during the Lausitz Rally (gravel, 2-4 November).

– The inclusion of the Silesia Rally in the itinerary of the recognised international series under the aegis of the FIA is undoubtedly quite a success and a sign of recognition of the development that the event has undergone over the six editions to date. Contrary to appearances, rallying is a team sport. There is a whole team of people behind the success of the driver and co-driver. The same is true for the organisation of such a major event as the Silesia Rally. Our success would not be possible without the support of the Marshal’s Office of the Silesian Voivodeship, Marshal Jakub Chełstowski, the city of Katowice, the Silesian Stadium, the Metropolis GZM, the Polish Motor Association and many other entities involved in the organisation of the Silesia Rally. I am glad that our rally, although it is the youngest event in the itinerary, is included in this elite group, which also includes competitions with a history in the world and European championships – says Grzegorz Wróbel, President of the Foundation of Automobilists, Organiser of the Silesia Rally.

From the 2023 season, the FIA decided to strengthen the rank of the European Rally Trophy, turning it into a pan-European series with one standings and an itinerary of twenty rounds in fifteen countries of the Old Continent.

Joining the international competition also means changes in the Silesia Rally. The competition will still be a round of the Polish Rally Championship, but its route will be longer. The total length of the special stages will increase to about 150 km.

– We face a big challenge. We have to plan many elements of the rally from scratch, so we are already working on the next year’s edition of the competitions to offer fans and teams a world-class event – adds Grzegorz Wróbel.

The 2023 Silesia Rally will be held in the Friday-Sunday format (8-10 September).
