Rally Silesia goes international
Rally Silesia, held for the very first time back in 2017, has become an important part of Polish Rally Championship. The event, held in the most populated part of Poland, has been developing on a year-by-year basis. This season, the organisers’ efforts were awarded, as Rally Silesia earned international status, by joining FIA European Rally Trophy Calendar. As many as 13 special stages, including two spectacular, evening superspecials, with total length exceeding 150 kms, await both for rally fans and crews.
2023 is the first season with FIA ERT running in updated format, with as many as 20 rounds in calendar, including famous events like Rally Antibes (France), Rali Vinho da Madeira (Portugal), Rallye du Valais (Switzerland) and Rallye Český Krumlov (Czechia). This year Rally Silesia, an event backed by Silesian Voivodeship, has earned a place among ERT rounds.
Joining FIA ERT means that the route of Rally Silesia is now longer than in previous years, with more than 150 kms of competitive sections.
Rally show in Katowice
Event-opening ceremony will be held on Friday, 8th of September, in centre of Katowice, the largest city of Silesia, which is the most populated urban area in Poland. There will be some rallying on Friday evening too. Rally crews will take over the streets of Katowice to provide a spectacular show during evening superspecial (4 kms), with many convenient spots to enjoy the rally action.
Demanding special stages in store
Four special stages are scheduled for the first leg of Polish FIA ERT counter, with three of them running twice. These stages are held on demanding and well-acknowledged tarmac roads in southern part of the region. One of the stages is a brand new test, located just 30 kms from Polish-Czech border and never used before in any rallying event. Another one is the longest (nearly 20 kms) stage of the event. The first leg will take place in the evening with popular superspecial nearby Silesian Stadium.
The itinerary of final leg consists of two special stages, both run twice (nearly 12 and 15 kms). Sunday’s stages are located nearby Polish-Czech border as well, with convenient access through S1 and DK81 dual carriageways.
620 kms is the total length of rally route with 25 per cent of competitive sections.
Multifunctional Silesian Stadium
For the seventh time Rally Silesia HQ will be based at Silesian Stadium. This multifunctional venue will host service park as well. This is the place where rallying fans can experience how rally mechanics do their miracle-fast repairs. Many other events for petrolheads will take place in Silesian Stadium during three days of Rally Silesia.
Legendary venue is the place where event-ending prize-giving ceremony will be held, on Sunday, 10th of September, at 4:30 PM.
