It’s water we go by… Silesian holidays with a child

Summer, beach, water – it sounds like a good idea for a holiday with a child. Fortunately, you don’t have to go far to the seaside – you’ll find many such places in Silesia. Numerous reservoirs – both artificial and natural – surrounded by beaches and recreational infrastructure are waiting for everyone.

Dąbrowskie Lake District

What could have been created after the filling sand excavation for the mines in Dąbrowa Górnicza? Giant holes or… four water reservoirs called Pogorias with a total area of over 860 ha, surrounded by sandy beaches, guarded by WOPR (Polish Volunteer Water Rescue Service) and used for a wide range of water recreation, from sailing to diving. The best place to spend a blissful and at the same time interesting time with your child is the Pogoria III bathing beach. A long and wide beach with clean sand, a walking promenade, a pier, a rich gastronomic offer and a large playground make the area adjacent to the reservoir one of the best places for a family holiday by the water in Silesia, appreciated by both locals and tourists.

Paprocańskie Lake in Tychy

The vision of rest at Paprocańskie Lake, surrounded by a beach, greenery, sports fields and having a long pier and several beaches, located in the south-western part of Tychy, is tempting in itself, but probably no junior can resist laughter and other sounds of joy coming on hot days from the water playground located in this bathing beach. The attraction is intended for younger and older children, and in the evenings, it pleases the eyes of walkers of all ages, creating a wonderful light show.

Valley of Three Ponds in Katowice

Something for those who are looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the capital of the voivodeship, but do not want to go too far from it. Katowice’s Valley of Three Ponds is an unusual place, if only because it is located close to a vibrant and industrialised city, and there are not three but eleven ponds. All of them were created as a result of mining activity, and some of them are now part of a sports and recreation complex. The Valley of Three Ponds offers, among other things, a bathing beach guarded in the summer, a small water playground, atmospheric cafes and restaurants, as well as wide green meadows that invite you to indulge in fun and… barbecues.

Sosnowiec also has a lot to offer tourists with young and older children. Located less than 2 km from the city centre and 9 km from Katowice’s city centre, Stawiki attracts visitors not only with standard attractions such as a guarded bathing beach, sandy beach, ice cream parlours and other catering establishments. It is also worth a visit due to Poland’s largest water obstacle course (for adults and children from 7 years old) and a nearby rope park with routes for juniors.

Lakes and lagoons

In the Silesian Voivodeship there are also recreational water reservoirs more or less distant from urban centres. It would take a long time to list all the Silesian bathing beaches where you can indulge in carefree fun. A place for family relaxation and fun on the beach and in the water can be found in virtually every part of the voivodeship. In the south, the dam reservoir on the Vistula River, i.e. Goczałkowickie Lake in Goczałkowice-Zdrój, called the Silesian sea, and the Tresna water reservoir on Żywiec Lake, where tourist boats run in the summer, are certainly worth visiting. In the north of Silesia, these will be the Poraj Lagoon, i.e. a dam reservoir on the Warta river in the Myszków poviat, the Przeczycko-Siewierski Lagoon near Siewierz, Pławniowickie Lake in the poviat of Gliwice and Nakło-Chechło Lake located 8 km north-east of Tarnowskie Góry. A very interesting fact is Rybnickie Lake, which never freezes – the reservoir is used to cool the nearby power plant. However, don’t worry – the water in it is safe for bathing! All these places are beautifully situated, offer safe rest by the water and in the water, and a lot of different attractions.
