A stadium full of interesting facts
You’ve probably read about the legendary matches at the Silesian Stadium more than once. You can easily find a list of bands that play concerts here. But we’ve gathered a few interesting facts that you might not have known.
Construction history: The Silesian Stadium was built in 1951-1956 and for many years was the largest sports facility in Poland.
Acoustic tunnel: There is a tunnel over 60 m long under the stadium, which muffles the sounds from the pitch, allowing athletes to concentrate before going out on the pitch.
Capacity: The stadium can accommodate over 54,000 spectators during sporting events, and during concerts this number increases to around 85,000.
Silesian Rally
Colour scheme: The seats in the stands are in yellow and blue, which are the official colours of Upper Silesia.
The largest roof in Europe: The stadium roof has an area of over 43,000. m2, making it the largest of its kind in Europe.
Attendance record: The largest number of spectators at the stadium was 130 thousand people, which took place during the speedway competition in 1973.
Multifunctionality: The Silesian Stadium is a venue not only for sports events, but also for concerts, conferences and other cultural events.
The Silesian Stadium is a co-organiser of the Rally Silesia.

The first edition of the Rally Silesia took place in 2017, immediately as a round of the Polish Championship – the most important rally series in our country. In the following years, the event was gradually developed – competitors in historic rally cars joined the participants, the Rally Silesia emerged new Polish champions and a spectacular show was organized – a special stage in the center of Katowice. In 2023, the competition gained international rank, becoming part of the European Rally Trophy (FIA ERT). It also gained recognition from the World Automobile Federation (FIA) and the promoter of the European Championship, which resulted in the promotion of the Rally Silesia to the FIA European Rally Championship (FIA ERC) – the second most important series in the world.
The honorary patronage over the competition was assumed by Wojciech Saługa, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship.
The main partner of the Rally Silesia is the Silesian Voivodeship.
The strategic partner of the Rally Silesia is the GZM Metropolis.
The city of Katowice is a co-host of the event, and the MOYA brand is a partner of the Rally Silesia. The Silesian Stadium in Chorzów is a co-organizer of the competition.
The event’s partner is also the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, and the task was co-financed from the state budget from the part administered by the Minister of Sport and Tourism.
