Enviroment
Today, protecting the environment is everyone’s responsibility. Organisers and participants of motorsport events also need to take measures that contribute to reducing the environmental impact of these competitions. Motorsport has always been an indicator of technological development, and now it also has the chance to become a vehicle for promoting responsible and environmentally friendly attitudes among participants and fans.
When organising the Silesian Rally, we not only want to reduce the environmental impact of our event, but also to show and inspire all participants in the event to also accept some of the responsibility. That is why we have prepared a handful of tips for competitors, their teams and also for rally fans.
Guide for rally participants
- Remember to segregate your rubbish and put it in the correct waste bins
- Outside special stages, try to keep engine speeds low to reduce noise and CO2 emissions
- Always use liquid-proof film when refuelling and in the service park
- Try to reduce noise in the service park
- Do not use disposable plastic dishes and cutlery
- Washing of rally cars is only allowed in designated areas
- Limit the use of cars: move on foot, on bicycles or scooters
- Use public transport: the special stages in Katowice and Chorzów can be conveniently reached by tram or bus

Enviromental policy
By joining the calendar of the European Rally Championship, the organizers of Rally Silesia have committed to implementing a sustainable development policy during the organization and conduct of the event. They are taking actions aimed at obtaining the Environmental Accreditation of the International Automobile Federation (FIA) at a minimum level of two stars. The goal of these actions is to minimize the negative impact of the rally on the environment by introducing real solutions that comply with ecological standards, which will be continued over the years. The focus is primarily on reducing the carbon footprint and waste generated during the organization of the event.
Rally Silesia takes place in a region long associated with high levels of pollution and industrialization. However, for many years it has been undergoing a positive transformation towards a greener and more better environment for its society. The organizers of Rally Silesia support this process by organizing an event that is friendly to both the environment and the local community. The regional authorities and residents are changing the industrial image of Silesia by caring for a green and clean environment.
The Key Elements of the Environmental Policy of Rally Silesia will focus on matters related to carbon footprint reduction, waste management, sustainable infrastructure, as well as educating and engaging the region’s community and local organizations.
Outlining each of the above-mentioned elements, we would like to present a specific plan of real actions:
1. Implementing and adhering to the applicable legal and environmental protection regulations binding in the country and region, as included in:
• PZM Environmental Protection Regulations in Motorsport
• Guidelines included in the FIA Environmental Accreditation Program
• National laws regarding environmental protection and waste disposal
2. Physical waste segregation at the rally in places such as the office, service zone, spectator zones, and other points designated by the organizers.
3. Introducing electronic documentation and materials, except for documentation required in paper form.
4. Using biodegradable, environmentally friendly products and recycled materials to reduce plastic consumption.
5. Limiting waste production and utilizing reusable materials instead of disposable ones.
6. Using services of local suppliers.
7. Using promotional materials that can be reused in future editions of the rally.
8. Monitoring and record keeping of the environmental performance (collecting data on energy, water consumption, waste production, and carbon dioxide emissions).
9. Reducing power generators by providing electricity from the local grid in the service area—reducing CO2 and noise pollution.
10. Reducing carbon dioxide emissions by:
• optimized logistics in the delivery of equipment and materials
• introducing hybrid and electric vehicles to the organizer’s fleet
• promoting public transportation and carpooling among spectators
• maximizing online meetings for the organizer
• locating accommodation for staff close to the worksite during the rally
• using accommodation services operating within frameworks aimed at reducing negative environmental impact
11. An information campaign in promotional materials, on the internet, and on social media about:
• carsharing
• cublic transportation options to reach the rally
• carpooling to the rally
• using park & ride facilities
• waste segregation and recycling
• respecting residents and the environment
• saving water and energy
12. Educating staff on environmental principles and rules binding at the rally.
13. Donating remaining perishable food to organizations helping those in need.
14. Communicating to team representatives the environmental rules in the service area regarding waste disposal and cleaning service stations.
15. Actions aimed at reducing groundwater contamination.
16. Collaborating with local institutions and organizations to positively impact the environment.
Together for a greener Silesia – together for the future.
